Over 90% of the extractions our teams perform are as a result of cavity wall insulation being installed incorrectly — either because the installers did not follow the correct procedures, or because the property should never have had insulation installed in the first place. As with double glazing and loft insulation, government grant schemes opened the doors for many companies to spring up overnight, resulting in some disastrous cases of badly installed insulation.

• Bubbling / blistering paintwork — cold spots caused by faulty cavity wall insulation.
• Condensation — black mould on walls, furniture, clothes and curtains; damaged plasterwork and timber windows.
• Mildew — often found during surveys; commonly linked to respiratory health problems.
• Damp, musty odours — usually caused by mould spores or damp conditions.
• Damp insulation materials — a direct cause of damp in your home.
• Leaking insulation material — due to incorrect installation methods.
• Damp fungal growth — badly installed insulation can lead to serious damp and fungal growth.
• Peeling wallpaper — in many cases cavity wall insulation is the root cause.

Cavity Wall Extraction Process

With knowledge gained from 21 years in the cavity wall insulation industry, we have identified the faults that can occur in installations — some only becoming apparent through increased instances of heavy wet weather. The process of removing cavity wall insulation is reasonably straightforward providing everything is done correctly. Common reasons a property may require extraction include: the wrong type of insulation being installed; badly installed insulation that has created structural and internal cosmetic problems; and insulation being installed in a property where it was not needed.
